* What is This?

This program converts RHEED (Reflection High-Energy Electron Diffraction) patterns into top view of the reciprocal spaces.

* Required System

This program works with: This program is a "Fat Binary". It was created using Metrowerks CodeWarrior Pro with PowerPlant on Power Macintosh 9500/200 and 7600/200 (both Mac OS 8J). It was tested only on 9500/200 (Mac OS 8J), 7600/200 (Mac OS 8J), and 7100/120 (Mac OS 7.5.3J). It may be run on System 7.1, try at your own risk.

A sample screen shot of the window is HERE.

* How to Use

  1. You will be required to select a PICT file of original RHEED pattern when you launch the software. Only PICT data is available. Any colored pictures will be converted into 256 grays.
  2. Document windows are consists of two parts, upper part for original picture and lower part for converted picture. In the upper part of the window, there are two circles and a line. Green circle, red circle, and blue line correspond to specular spot, direct spot, and shadow edge respectively. You can drag these markers to fit the RHEED pattern you assigned.
  3. After you fixed positions of markers, you need to adjust camera length or glancing angle of incident electron. At first, it is recommended that you find exact camera length from the RHEED pattern with known glancing angle. The camera length you entered will be stored for next use.
  4. Push <Convert> button to start conversion. The conversion can be in background. If you want to cancel conversion, press <Stop> button (changed from Convert button).
  5. When conversion is finished, the result will be appear in the lower part of the window. You can save the result as a PICT file via Save menu. You can also Drag&Drop onto the other applications (such as GraphicsConverter, Finder, etc.) from the result window.
  6. After the conversion, clicking on the original picture with control key will show you the corresponding point in the result. It also shows the coordinate (origin is the 00 spot) in the status area beside the progress bar.
You can also Drag&Drop onto the upper part of the window to place the original picture from the other software.
